Donate a Saturday Morning In San Diego
Seniors at High Tech High Chula Vista are working on a semester long project associated with the United Nations of San Diego. Currently in San Diego we have a large Hepatitis A breakout which has affected hundreds of homeless individuals and the community nearby. With a normal average of 3,000 cases a year nationwide, this number has increased to just 517 cases alone in San Diego. Along with two other students we have been focusing on 1 of the 17 UN Sustainable Goals which is good health and well being. There is a lack of education amongst the community regarding hygiene, and only minimal resources for sanitation practice amongst the homeless community. There is an urgent need for additional funds to target this breakout. We are holding a walk for wellness which entails individuals raising money through sponsorships in attempt to raise funds for care kits that will be distributed amongst the homeless in San Diego. We are eager to build support in creating this community event, whether that be financial donations, personal involvement, or sharing our event. Moving forward as high school students the medical field is a passion of ours and with this project we are equipping ourselves to understand a more holistic view of medicine.
